Who Should Play QB While Ben’s Away

So we’re sitting here on July 9th, exactly 3 weeks before the team opens up camp and we’re wondering, who should play QB while Ben’s out?  Should it be the old vet Charlie Batch? He knows the offense and the team the best. He’s been here the longest and he’s been decent when he’s had to fill in. Of course, he’s been here the longest because he isn’t a starter for any team, not even Oakland. While we think he’s servicable, he’s not the answer.

So, should it be Byron Leftwich? Well, he’s got a strong arm and he’s been a starter in the league, but then again, he was benched in Tampa last year. Sure, he was on the team in 08, and sure he played decently while he had the opportunites but is he the best fit? He’s not mobile at all, he isn’t really coveted around the league, for some reason, so, no, he’s not it either.

Well, then who’s left? Yep, Dennis Dixon. We are aware that he’s only played 1 game in his pro career and 1 game does not make a career but he’s why we think he’s the man. One, he’s a winner, he won in college and he seems to be a leader. Two, he is very mobile, with this O line the way it is, mobility is huge. Three, he’s young. With his youth he’ll be more apt to listen to the vets and willing to learn. He’s also more of a long term solution should Ben screw up again or get hurt as he normally does. We vote for Dixon, then Leftwich, then Batch. But really, let’s just all hope that Ben is only out 4 games and not 6!
